FOR WHOM IS WAVE2?

This advanced course is ideal for certified freedivers seeking to deepen their freediving knowledge, refine and improve their underwater skills, further their understanding of the effects free diving has on the body, develop mindfulness, reach new depths, try something new like freediving with a monofin or finally get a taste of Free Falling.

To qualify for Wave2, you are required to have completed Wave 1. If you have a freediving certification of an equivalent level to Wave 1 from another certifying agency, you are to pass a crossover evaluation.

WHAT WILL YOU ACHIEVE DURING WAVE2?

Following on from the introductory course Wave1, Wave2 aims at refining and improving your freediving knowledge, skills and techniques and prepare you for further development.

In this intermediate freediving course, you will understand the physiological changes happening to your body while freediving. You will learn how to train your body to adapt to deeper dives and longer breath-holds. You will improve your equalization and breathing techniques and learn how to descent and ascent in the most efficient way. You will understand the principles of mindfulness and how to use relaxation techniques. You will familiarize yourself with more freediving equipment. You will learn to identify warning signs of a blackout, how to avoid them and how to act if needs be.

By the end of this course, you should be able to hold your breath for more than 2mn 30s, master the skills and knowledge needed to freedive comfortably to a depth of 24-30 meters in Constant Weight and Free Immersion and 15m in Constant Weight No Fins. You should be able to understand the main differences and adaptions in the body, become more proficient in no-fin techniques, and master rescue techniques.

WAVE2 COURSE DESCRIPTION

Much like Wave1, Wave2 combines a theoretical and a practical component. Freediving students can connect to Molchanovs’ Dashboard Platform to access the education materials (videos and course manual) for this advanced freediving course and submit their evaluation.

During the Dry Skill Session, your first in-person session, your freediving instructor will assess your knowledge and skills, review the key points of the online course, and have you practiced the techniques covered in the course materials.

The in-water training comprises 2 pool sessions and 4 open water sessions. During the confined water sessions, you will refine your existing freediving skills such as breath-holding and swimming distance underwater, with and without fins. You will also learn new freediving techniques such as the monofin technique. Safety being of utmost importance, you will practice buddying and safety procedures.

During the open-water sessions, you will learn to comfortably and safely dive to greater depths. That entails improving existing skills (equalization, breathing, duck diving...), learning new techniques (Monofin, usage of lanyard, neutral buoyancy...) and disciplines (including Constant Weight No Fins), but also performing buddying, safety, and rescue procedures at greater depths. You will also discover Free Falling, an all-time favorite among freedivers.

To be certified as a Wave2 Freediver, you are to pass the practical assessment, the requirements of which are:

  • Static 2mn 30s
  • Dynamic 50m
  • Dynamic no fins 35m
  • Constant Weight & Free Immersion 24-30m
  • Constant Weight No Fins 15m
  • Constant Weight buddying 10-15m
  • Rescue from 15m
