DISCOVER SPEARFISHING?
Our Discover Spearfishing Course caters to certified freedivers interested in experiencing spearfishing for the first time and catching their own food.
This introductory course to spearfishing may also be of interest to spearfishers new to the sport or with little experience looking to expand their spearfishing knowledge and improve their underwater technique.
WHAT WILL I LEARN?
The Discover Spearfishing is the perfect introduction to Spearfishing: fun, safe, and respectful.
In this course, we will introduce you to the equipment required to spearfish. We will focus on how to safely carry, handle, load, and shoot a speargun. Your instructor will also teach you to identify the different species of fish found in the Mediterranean Sea, their behavior, the best way to approach them, and how to lure and catch them. An important part of the course is learning how to be a responsible spearo (sustainable spearfishing), and an efficient underwater hunter who is aware of safety procedures and knows how to interact with his buddy in different fishing scenarios while underwater.
The instructor is an experienced freediver and spearfisher, and he has many tricks up his sleeve!
HOW IS THE
DISCOVER SPEARFISHING?
The Discover Spearfishing Course starts with an academic session or classroom during which we will provide you with fundamentals spearfishing knowledge. We will, for instance, explain what spearfishing is. We will introduce you to sustainable fishing, the different fish species and their behavior. You will learn about fishing techniques, safety procedures as well as how to handle the spearfishing equipment.
Upon arrival at the fishing spot, the instructor will brief you on the site and outline the following steps. We will then gear up and get ready for a fun in-water practice.
We will start practicing basic techniques and get familiar with the equipment. Once we are ready, we will plan our fishing strategy: route to follow, access points, techniques to use but also how to move efficiently to save energy and not scare the fish, etc.
The instructor will always be by your side to show you how to act step-by-step, and give you guidance on how to dive at any given time and on the technique to use based on your surroundings and the species you are targeting. After a few hours of fishing and practicing various techniques, we will return to the shore, dry off and have some snacks and drinks to recover the energy spent during the day.
To wrap up the Discover Spearfishing Course, the instructor will review the open water session and provide tips for continued progress.

Today my partner and I took the spearfishing course with Arturo, having previously enjoyed training dives with him and a cave expedition 2 years earlier. We knew that what we were looking for was a patient instructor whose values aligned with ours. We found that and more in Arturo's teachings. We love that he teaches sustainable spearfishing, how to hunt with respect and how to distinguish between the fish to ensure we hunt selectively. The day started with theory, where he asked about our past experiences before explaining the different equipment and guns in great detail. He even advised us on how to cook some of the fish, which was very exciting! Next we went to the water where Arturo patiently showed us how to dive safely with the gun, how to aim and shoot and how to reload the guns. Then we spent the rest of the course learning how to position ourselves and how to maneuver through the underwater environment to improve our chances of success. All in all, a really enjoyable and insightful day, a fantastic instructor and we can't wait to put into practice what we learned and are already planning to dive with Arturo again. Highly recommend!
