The Spearfisher Course

The Spearfisher Course is designed for spearos with some degree of experience that are seeking to improve their spearfishing knowledge in terms of techniques, equipment, understanding of the underwater environment, and safety. The Spearfisher Course aims to transform your experience, strengthen your in-water hunting skills and make you a better and safer spearfisher. 

You are to be a certified freediver with spearfishing experience to join this course. If you are not certified, we strongly recommend taking a freediving course as your underwater skills will tremendously improve. If you have a freediving certification but have never spearfish before, our Discover Spearfishing Course is more suitable as it will cover the basics of Spearfishing.

There is little doubt that to be a good spearo, you must be a good freediver. Who better to make you a better spearfisher than an experienced freediving instructor with a vibrant passion for spearfishing?

During the Spearfisher Course, the instructor will use your experience as a spearo to tailor the course to your level and needs.  You will learn to sync with your speargun and have a better understanding of your weapon and the spearfishing equipment as a whole. Your spearfishing Instructor will also introduce you to the fish present in the Mediterranean Sea, including the most elusive ones, explain their behavior and the best fishing techniques to use to catch them. We will also highlight the need for sustainable spearfishing, identify the protected species and areas and acknowledge the current regulations. Safety will be an essential part of this spearfishing course, and we will review buddying techniques, deep safety, the most common injuries, and much more.

The first part of the Spearfisher Couse will entirely focus on you and your experience: freediving certification and level, spearfishing experience, and the reasons you enroll for this spearfishing course.

During the classroom, we will then cover all topics as described in the course content and more. This will be the perfect time to review your skills and the equipment and practice on land some breathing techniques and equalizations and fine tuning them. We will also watch videos of different spearfishing techniques that we will practice during the water session. We will study how to execute them properly and how how to avoid common mistakes. During the classroom all questions are, of course, welcome.

The instructor will decide the fishing spot on the day of the course, as we are dependent on the sea conditions. The instructor will choose a site that meets your needs and the course requirements.

Once on-site, the spearfishing instructor will brief you. The briefing will cover the fishing spot, the targeted fish, the spearfishing techniques to use, and the buddy teams.

Once in the water, we will start practicing position, approach, silent duck dives, and several other techniques learned during the classroom.

The instructor will always be by your side, correcting the mistakes made and helping you to master the techniques. He will give insight, guidance, and tips that will make you improve fast.

After the water session, we will enjoy some drinks and snacks while discussing the water session we just had.

To conclude the Spearfisher Course, the instructor will give you some tailored exercises to practice your equalization, breath-hold, flexibility, etc. according to your needs.
