Spearfishing Workshops

Deep spearfishing is a workshop designed for Advanced Spearos seeking to freedive deeper and target more elusive fish species.

In this tailored workshop, you will learn how to plan and execute deeper dives, using advanced freediving techniques of equalization and relaxation. You will also learn how to hunt with your buddy at greater depths, and in a way that doesn’t spook the fish. We will also provide you with exercises to self-train.

This workshop includes an open-water session and aims at making you a better and safer hunter.

The Spearfishing Clinic has one goal and one goal only: providing you with all information necessary for you to be safe while spearfishing. Many spearfishermen and spearfisherwomen are self-taught, which can make spearfishing a dangerous underwater activity.

We will start this dry workshop with safe breathing techniques. We will then discuss the physiological impact of freediving/spearfishing, the most common injuries, and barotraumas and how to prevent them. We will introduce you to primary and secondary care, CPR, how to provide oxygen and how to build a first aid kit. You will then learn about buddying and safety protocols. This workshop is a dry workshop, meaning it doesn’t include a water session. We can add in-water training to practice safety scenarios in open water (additional cost applies)

With this workshop, you have the choice between practicing with your speargun or with ours. In both cases, we will practice for a couple of hours shooting targets in different positions. We will record each shot with our high-speed underwater cameras and review the footage to check the speargun's recoil, its range, the distance where the shaft starts to drop as well as its lateral movement management. The instructor will then advise how to fine-tune your weapon if needs be.  

The videos will also help you visualize your mistakes. We will use it as a support to correct them. We will focus on: shooting position, muscular tension, hand-eye coordination, how to avoid hail mary shots and sympathetic muscle response, how to squeeze the trigger, etc.

We have a vast range of spearguns to try: from 60cm to 120cm, single/double rollers, roller/sling hybrids, single/double invert rollers, single/double/triple sling, and pneumatics in aluminum, carbon, and wood.

During this workshop, we will discuss the most appropriate spearfishing equipment for your need, level, depth, and target. We will then have you try the adequate equipment. By doing so, you can buy the right equipment for you.

The equipment that you can test includes various spearguns, wetsuits, fins, and buoys.

Spearfishing relies on little equipment, but you do need each piece to work as it should.

This dry workshop will give you a better understanding of your spearfishing gear. You will learn how your equipment works, how to maintain it in perfect conditions, and how to fix it when necessary.
